Tigers to play top teams in MSC standings as they host four matches this weekend

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger volleyball will return to Gosser Gym this weekend as they will host four Mid-South Conference matches from Thursday, March 12 to Saturday, March 14.

CU (21-2, 7-0 MSC), currently ranked No. 2 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll will look to play Cumberland University, Webber International University, Warner University, and Life University, looking to take sole possession of first place in the Mid-South Conference standings.

Entering the weekend, the Tigers are currently in a tie for first place in the conference, as both CU and Warner have gone 7-0 through conference play. Life and Webber International follow close behind going 5-1 and 5-2 in MSC play, respectively.

Campbellsville's opening game in the homestand will be the makeup game with Cumberland University at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, after they were forced to postpone the match a week ago due to tornados throughout the Tennessee area.

Cumberland (11-12, 4-3 MSC) are currently fifth in the MSC standings but have won five of their last six matches entering Thursday. The Phoenix and the Tigers previously met this season on Feb. 4, where Campbellsville took a straight set win behind a 46-kill effort, including 16 from Rafael Cruz.

The Phoenix, led by Caleb Ginnings, are ranked fifth in the NAIA in total digs (899), averaging 11.24 digs per game. Ginnings himself is also No. 5 in the category with 237. Cumberland also is in the NAIA's top ten in kills (892) and assists (893).

Friday evening, the Tigers will matchup with the No. 4 team in the MSC as they look to host Maroon Madness Night at 7 p.m. ET.

Webber International (8-4, 5-2 MSC) visits Gosser as the No. 3 ranked team in service aces per game (1.96) behind stellar offensive play from Daniel Hermida who ranks fourth in aces per game (0.72) and eighth in kills per game (4.15).

Campbellsville will welcome two MSC matches on Saturday beginning with Warner University at 11 a.m. ET.

The Royals (11-3, 7-0 MSC) enter the weekend tied with Campbellsville in the top spot in MSC play, as both programs are undefeated in the conference.

Winning nine of the last ten matches heading into the weekend, Warner looks to challenge the No. 2 Tigers for top spot in the standings. As a team, the Royals rank among the NAIA's top 15 teams in hitting percentage (0.273), aces per game (1.59), assists per game (11.39), kills per game (12.2), and digs per game (10.31).

Individually, Esdras Panchame ranks tenth in digs per game (2.91), while Jose Gonzales has been a consistent offensive threat, with a hitting percentage of 38.2%.

The final match of Campbellsville on the weekend will be the Running Eagles of Life University (8-6, 5-1 MSC), who visit the Gosser Gym for the second time this season.

In their previous meeting, the Tigers swept Life 25-18, 25-15, 25-21, but the Running Eagles have gone 7-1 since that meeting, only dropping six sets.

Life has put together team rankings in the top 10 in aces per game (1.72), kills per game (12.5), and assists per game (11.66).
