Former Tiger All-American Stephaun Adams passes away at the age of 23

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — It is with great sadness the Campbellsville University athletics department announces former Tiger Basketball All-American Stephaun Adams has passed away.

He died in St. Cloud, Fla. early Thursday morning after being struck by a car in a crosswalk. He was 23 years old and survived by his mother, Stephanie, and father, Melvin.

Adams, known as "Zab" by his teammates and coaches, earned 2019 All-American honors during his lone year as a Tiger before graduating in the spring semester with honors.

"Our program suffered a significant loss today," said coach Brent Vernon. "Zab was not only one of the most talented point guards our program has ever seen, but also one of the best men to ever be apart of Campbellsville University basketball.

"On the floor, Zab's basketball IQ matched his ability to play the game, which is rare, but made him our fearless leader on the court. He was a warrior on the court, but off the court he was just as amazing. If you ever had the opportunity to meet Zab, then you were blessed because he had the ability to light up a room wherever he went.

"He was an exemplary person that was intelligent, well-spoken, polite and respectful all of the time. Our program is heart broken and words can never be enough to express what Zab meant to us. His family is in our prayers."

Adams, the Tigers' leading scorer in 2018-19, also had the second-most steals in the NAIA on the season with 79 and also finishing with the second-best steals per game average at 2.5. Adams was also a solid free throw shooter, one of the best in the NAIA with the fourth best percentage from the line at 88.4 percent.

Before his time at Campbellsville, Adams played at Motlow State Community College during his freshman year then transferred to Tennessee Tech during his sophomore and junior seasons.

More information for arrangements will be provided once it is released by the family.
