KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Through the third day of competition for the Tigers at the NAIA Championship,
Sebastian Escobar was able to lead CU to the first All-American finish since the program's reinstatement.
After an exceptional freshman campaign, breaking many records for the Tiger program, Escobar looked poised to make a run at an All-American finish in one of his events this weekend.
After narrowly missing top eight in the 500 freestyle last night, Escobar opened his day with a school record mark of a 1:40.75 in the 200 freestyle to qualify him for the evening finals session, practically sealing an All-American finish.
Escobar then came back in the evening session to mark a 1:42.06 in the event to place sixth earning the first NAIA All-American for Coach
Casey Bradstreet.
Also swimming as a part of the 200-medley relay to begin his morning, Escobar along with Noah Ackerman,
Justin Spalding, and
Collin McGuire put together a season best time of 1:40.35 to place 18
th, for the second finals alternate position.
Coach Bradstreet was thrilled with this team, as she says it sets them up to race their last relay tomorrow with passion and drive.
In the following event, McGuire was back in the water as he reset his school record in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:16.99.
The Tigers will be back in the pool tomorrow as they will look to close out their season on the final day of competition at the NAIA Championships.
