Tigers win two straight to even record at .500; CU to host seven more matches at home through March

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Tiger tennis earned a pair of much needed wins on Saturday and Sunday at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex. The Tigers won 5-2 over Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday, March 7 and then a 7-0 sweep over Centre College on Sunday, March 8. 
 
Against Olivet Nazarene, the Tigers lost two of the three doubles matches but won five of the six singles bouts to pick up the win. 
 
Nicolas Andrade and Matus Sevick earned the doubles win 6-0 and then went on to win their singles matches at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively. Andrade beat Alfonso Martinez 6-3, 6-2 giving CU its first point and Sevick won 6-2, 6-1. 
 
Cristian Perez won in three sets over Alex Verdo after falling 7-6 in set one. He rallied with 6-4, 6-3 wins in the second and third sets. David Carbo also earned a three-set victory over Francisco Faria 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. 
 
Eric Barnabeu sealed the win for Campbellsville winning 7-5, 6-1 over Andres Martinez in the final singles match. 
 
Against Centre College, the Tigers earned the doubles point this time winning two of the three matches. Perez teamed up with Carbo winning 6-2, while Raul Safont and Sevick also earned a 6-2 victory. 
 
In singles, it was all Campbellsville. Dropping only one set overall, Safont, Andrade, Sevcick and Perez all swept their opponents. Perez had to rally in a third-set tiebreak winning 6-7, 6-2 (10-6). 
 
Campbellsville evens its record at 4-4 and will host seven straight matches throughout March at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex. CU starts with Southwestern College on Monday, March 9 at 2 p.m. ET. It's been moved to Monday with potential weather scheduled for Wednesday (which was the original date of the match).
