Tiger wrestling hits the road for trio of duals to kick off 2020-21 season

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After missing out on a couple of early events, the Campbellsville University men's wrestling team will finally get their 2021 season underway when they face Montreat College, Truett McConnell University, and Keiser University all away from Campbellsville.

The duals against Montreat and Truett McConnell are both true road events with the Tigers facing Montreat in Montreat, N.C. on Friday and the duals against TMU and Keiser taking place in Cleveland, Ga. hosted by the Bears on Saturday.

CU has remained in the NAIA Coaches' Poll Top-20 in the fourth version of the 2020-21 poll as they come into today's new poll ranked No. 14. After starting at No. 8, the Tigers have continuously slid down the rankings to now land in their 14th spot through no fault of their own since they have not competed yet.

As another result of Campbellsville not starting up until this weekend, they have five individuals ranked in their respective weight classes after starting the season with eight ranked wrestlers.

In Thursday's poll, Dayton Marvel (149 lbs.) came in at No. 9, Chandler Woenker (165 lbs.) came in at No. 20, Mahlic Sallah (174 lbs.) came in at No. 3, Aaron Mosley (184 lbs.) came in at No. 15, and David Richardson (197 lbs.) came in at No. 7.

None of the three upcoming opponents for the Tigers this weekend are ranked in the Top-20 but Truett McConnell is receiving votes in the team rankings. Individually, only one wrestler from the three teams combined is ranked in their weight class and that individual is Geowel Silvestre from Truett McConnell who lands at No. 19 in the 141 lbs. rankings.

In their duals events this season, Montreat has a 3-5 record as they just competed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Duals where they went 3-2 in five duals on Jan. 16 with their three previous duals coming in defeats back in November.

One of Montreat's losses came to Truett McConnell as the Bears are 2-5 in other duals this season, owning a win against Brewton-Parker most recently on Jan. 12. Their four team wins in the AAC Duals came against Montreat, St. Andrews, Bluefield, and West Virginia Tech.

Keiser is winless on the season in duals as they most recently dropped a pair of duals to Cumberland University and Brewton-Parker on Jan. 16. Those are the only two duals for Keiser since the calendar changed to 2021 as they went 0-4 in December and 0-2 in November.

Following these three duals, the Tigers will prepare for a pair of Mid-South Conference duals against Thomas More and Midway in Crestview Hills, Ky. on Feb. 2.
