CLEVELAND, Ga. – Coming off of a dominant win on Friday, the Campbellsville men's wrestling team picked up a pair of runaway victories Saturday afternoon against Keiser University and Truett McConnell University.
The dual between the Tigers and TMU was the closer of the two matches for CU as they earned a 33-16 win over the Bears in the final dual of the day. After falling behind 0-4,
Cameron Henderson (133) and
Tombola Sindihebura (141) were able to earn wins to make it a 9-4 Tiger lead.
Sindihebura's win came by an 8-7 decision over No. 19 Geowel Silvestre as Henderson earned a pin late in the first period over Ethan Frye.
Tristan Sellmer (157) nabbed a pin over Mitchell Braddy in 1:55 to make it a 15-7 CU lead before the Bears went on a run.
Truett McConnell won the next two bouts at 165 and 174 to take the lead back at 16-15 after a decision at 165 and a pin at 174. The Tigers closed out strong though as
Gabe Martinez (184),
Jaden Sonner (197), and
Alex Coleman (285) all recorded pin victories to give CU 18-straight points to finish the match 33-16.
The Tigers had no issues in their first dual of the day against Keiser as they earned a 46-0 shutout over the Seahawks that saw CU earn six points in five different bouts with four forfeits and a pin.
Coleman earned a pin victory over Earnest Johnson in just 11 seconds as the freshman earned pins in less than 70 seconds in his first three collegiate matches with the 11-second pin being one of, if not the, fastest pins in Campbellsville wrestling history.
Sindihebura (141) earned a 6-1 decision to get the official scoring started after forfeits from KU at 125 and 133. Following another forfeit at 157, Smith narrowly won a 2-0 decision at 165 followed by a major decision from Sallah at 174 by a score of 13-2. Richardson clinched a 14-7 decision victory at 184 before the final forfeit from the 197 weight class prior to Coleman's match at 285.
Up next for the men's wrestling team will be a pair of duals in Crestview Hills, Ky. when they will matchup against Thomas More University and Midway University.
