DANVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers swim team was hosted by Centre College Friday where the men were defeated 153-96.
The men began competition in the 200-yard medley relay where the team of
Ian Lopez, Nick Grabauskas,
Sebastian Escobar, and
Llewellyn Crewe-Brown came in second place just a tenth of a second behind Centre (1:38.56). Escobar won the 200-yard freestyle that succeeded with a time of 1:49.56.
John Chappell swam a time of 2:06.78 in the 200-yard individual medley for second place.
Lopez secured second place with his 22.18 time in the men's 50-yard freestyle. The 100-yard butterfly followed that event and
William Luciano took third place with a time of 57.92. The 100-yard freestyle saw Crewe-Brown finish first with a time of 50.64. It would be back-to-back wins when Escobar took the next event, the 500-yard freestyle, with his time of 4:49.96 which was over 25 seconds quicker than second place.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Benjamin Burnison,
Logan Reichley,
Thomas Webb, and Chappell captured second with a time of 1:35.68. The subsequent event was the 100-yard backstroke that saw Crewe-Brown come in second (57.71) and Reichley finish third (58.60). The penultimate event was the 100-yard breaststroke where
Israel Kolomiyets posted a time of 1:02.89 just two-tenths of a second behind second place. The final contest of the meet was the 400-yard freestyle relay where the team of Lopez, Grabauskas, Webb, and Burnison were second with a time of 3:28.93.
"This was a great meet so early in the season and with a quick turnaround from Fall Frenzy, we are really focusing on racing tired now and perfecting technique and race strategies," head coach
Casey Bradstreet said. "We even had some surprise time improvement! I am very pleased with all their efforts and look forward to this Friday for our first home meet!"
The Tigers will be back home during Homecoming for their next competition when Bethel University (Tenn.) comes to Campbellsville. That meet will be October 8
th beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
