Tigers go cold in final nine minutes, falling to Life 66-57

Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. — Life University out-scored Campbellsville 21-8 in the final nine minutes to win on Saturday in the Eagles Nest, 66-57.
 
Campbellsville falls to 9-14 on the season and 7-13 inside Mid-South Conference play. Life improved to 9-9 overall and 5-9 inside conference.
 
Taiveyhon Mason scored 20 points to lead CU on 10-of-16 shooting with two assists. Alston Davis finished with 11 to round out CU's double figure scoring. 
 
The Running Eagles came out on fire hitting 7-of-13 to start the game and hit all four 3-pointers leading 21-11. The 3s were the difference maker throughout most of the opening half as Life led 33-25 at the break. Overall, Life hit 10-of-18 from deep (55%) while CU was 5-of-30 (16%). 
 
In the second half, the Tigers trailed by as many as 14 points, 41-27, but used the long ball to get back in the game. A 3 by Sam Weining cut the deficit to 11 points and a Davis triple cut the lead to eight, 41-33. Mason scored four straight points cutting the lead to four, 45-41, with 11:31 left. 
 
Out of the media timeout, Jay'von Jackson hit a couple of free throws and Mason hit a floater in the lane tying the game at 45. CU ended up going on a 18-4 run in the second half to tie the game. But during the final nine minutes, the Tigers went cold. CU went 3-for-14 in the final nine minutes with only one turnover. The Tigers also went 2-for-6 to finish the game. 
 
The 57 points is the second-least points scored in a game this season as CU finished with 56 against Georgetown earlier in the week. 
 
The Tigers will now finish the regular season next week as CU hosts Thomas More University on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Shawnee State on Saturday, Feb. 20.
