Tiger baseball gets 2021 underway as they host conference foe Cumberland University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - After weeks of failed attempts to get their 2021 season underway, the Campbellsville University baseball team will finally get game action when they host Cumberland University for a three-game series this Thursday and Friday at HIG Field.

The Tigers and Phoenix agreed to move the series to Thursday and Friday due to the forecasted rain scheduled to hit Campbellsville at some point later in the day on Friday and not stop until the following Monday. Thursday will be a doubleheader between the Mid-South Conference teams starting at 1:30 p.m. ET with Friday's game time still to be determined based on the weather.

The games will be streamed live on the CU Sports Network online at www.campbellsvilletigers.com/watch as Zach Clements will be on the call for CU baseball's opening games of 2021.

TIGER NOTES SCOUTING CUMBERLAND
  • The Phoenix have been more fortunate in their schedule to get 13 games in so far to a recrod of 8-5 in the early, going 2-2 over their last four games with wins against IU-Southeast and Midway while dropping games to Point Park twice.
  • Head coach for Cumberland,. Woody Hunt is entering what has been announced to be his final season leading the charge for the Phoenix as Hunt has been managing at Cumberland for over 40 seasons and amassed over 1,600 wins.
  • At the plate, Pablo Custodio has been a quality run producer this season as he is hitting .333 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBIs through 13 starts.
  • Four pitchers have made multiple starts for the Phoenix this season with Connor Dunnam not allowing a run yet in nine innings pitched as their top starter through limited action.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • Though the weather forecast doesn't look favorable for Campbellsville heading into next week, they are scheduled to host Rio Grande for a mid-week doubleheader next Tuesday before hitting the road for an MSC series at Bethel next weekend.
