Montalvo’s MSC Tournament performance leads to Defender of the Week honor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Winning three matches to earn the first Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team also picked up a weekly individual accolade as libero Jay Montalvo earned the Defender of the Week honor.

For Montalvo, it's the fourth Defender of the Week honor after also being named the Libero of the Year for the second-straight season before the tournament started last week.

Montalvo finished the tournament with 36 total digs, finishing all three matches with double digits in the statistical category. The redshirt junior also only finished with two service reception errors on 54 reception attempts in the three-match span for a .963 receiving percentage.

Adding some offensive stats, Montalvo had six aces and five assists combined through the three matches to help Campbellsville finish as 2021 double champions inside of the conference.

Tiger volleyball will find out their NAIA Tournament placement Monday afternoon when the NAIA announces the men's volleyball national championship field as the tournament is set to begin on Apr. 20 in Des Moines, Iowa.
