Tigers and Saints battle in MSC Opening Round after ending regular season against one another

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After facing off just seven days ago in a three-game series that closed out the regular season for the Campbellsville University baseball team, the Tigers will welcome Thomas More University to HIG Field for a three-game series to kick off the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

10 of the 11 teams will participate in opening round series as CU and TMU square off in the No. 6 vs. No. 7 matchup after the Tigers jumped the Saints in the standings by winning two out of three at Crestview Hills, Ky. last Thursday and Friday.

This week's games will be on Friday and Saturday at HIG Field with a single game set for Friday to start at 4 p.m. ET with a doubleheader for Saturday scheduled to start at one and the second game of the day to follow if the first two games are split.

All two or three games will be streamed on the CU Sports Network at www.campbellsvilletigers.com/watch as Zach Clements will be on the call for the postseason action.

TIGER NOTES
  • With their series win over Thomas More last week, the Tigers ended the regular season with an 11-11 MSC record while finishing 16-17 overall to earn the No. 6 seed in the conference standings.
  • All three of the games came down to the final innings as Thomas More made it a one-run game where CU hung on in game one, a seven-run top of the seventh followed by a five-run bottom of the eighth propelled TMU to a win in game two, and another seven-run seventh inning helped the Tigers win the seven-inning finale.
  • Finishing the regular season, the top of the Tiger order led the offense in terms of batting average as leadoff man Colton Titus finished the year with a .352 average and catcher/DH/first baseman Eddy Arteaga was right behind him at .342 on the year.
  • On the mound, Campbellsville looks locked in with the weekend rotation of Zack Bromstead for game one, Korren Thompson for game two, and Aaron Hutchinson for game three as the trio varied in success last week but have given the Tigers quality innings down the stretch of the regular season.

SCOUTING THOMAS MORE
  • The Saints finished tied with the Tigers with their 11-11 conference record, but CU earned the tiebreaker based off of the head-to-head series as TMU also finished 22-25 in the regular season.
  • Bailey Martin and Derek Atwood continue to be the hitting leaders for Thomas More, finishing the regular season at .376 and .348 respectively in batting average as both players had five hits in the three-game series last week.
  • Starting pitcher Mychal Grogan had the most success on the mound going seven innings in game one allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts.
  • Thomas More has been slightly better at home than on the road as the Saints finished with a 14-11 home record and an 8-12 record away from Crestview Hills.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The winner of this three-game series will move on to the final tournament site in Bowling Green, Ky. at Bowling Green Ballpark, the home of the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
  • The final site will host a six-team, double elimination format tournament to determine the MSC Tournament Champion.
