Montalvo earns second-straight Mid-South Conference Libero of the Year honor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the second time in as many seasons while playing for the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team, libero Jay Montalvo earned the Mid-South Conference Libero of the Year honor.

Montalvo was the conference Libero and Player of the Year a season ago during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season and just takes home the defensive honors in the 2021 season where CU finished 23-3 and 14-1 in conference play to take home the regular season championship.

Montalvo finished with a team-high 267 digs and added 79 assists with the setter out during the 2021 season. Montalvo played in 25 matches and 87 sets on the season, primarily serving as the team's libero but also spending some limited time as a setter or outside hitter on occasion.

In service reception, an important part of the game for taking advantage of a team's most aggressive offensive opportunity, Montalvo only made 17 reception errors in 393 attempts for a reception percentage of .957. While serving, Montalvo finished the regular season with 20 aces and 55 errors for a .801 serving percentage.

Montalvo and the Tigers will begin the postseason Thursday afternoon in the conference tournament quarterfinals when they face Midway in Bowling Green, Ky. at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
