BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As the regular season champions in the Mid-South Conference, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team had seven individuals named to the All-MSC teams.
Outside hitter
Rafael Cruz, middle block
Ramon Matos, and libero
Jay Montalvo all earned First Team selections with freshmen outside hitters
Ho Yin Leung and
Isaac Paches garnering Second Team honors, as setter
Jeremy Hernandez and middle blocker
Noah Henkel rounding out the honors with honorable mention selections.
Cruz is the all-time leader in most offensive categories for the Tigers as he earns his third-straight All-MSC First Team honor. He finished the 2021 regular season with a team-high 228 kills and a hitting percentage of .273 on 510 total attacks.
Matos had the third-highest kills total on the year with 123 on the season, the most for any middle block on the Tigers. Matos also had the third-most total blocks on the season for CU as he had 39 total blocks in his 58 sets played.
Montalvo continues to be a steady force on the back row for Campbellsville as the now two-time Libero of the Year in the conference finished 2021's regular season with 267 digs. Montalvo also finished with only 17 reception errors in 393 attempts at receiving the serve.
Leung and Paches provided quality depth on the outside for the Tigers in their first seasons on campus as they had the second and fourth highest amount of kills on the team. Paches finished with 140 kills, with a strong enough defensive ability to play on the back row as Leung mainly played on the front row to finish with 119 kills on the year.
Hernandez played primarily in the back row as the setter for CU with
Ryan Smith handling front row setting duties as Hernandez led the team with 508 assists on the year. Hernandez finished just four digs away from a triple-digit season in that category as he ended the regular season with 96 digs.
Henkel spelled Matos in the middle as the Erfurt, Germany native led the Tigers in blocks this season with 65 while providing 109 kills on the year. Henkel had a strong .326 attack percentage, leading the Tiger attackers with over 100 attacks on the season.
The Tigers will begin the postseason Thursday afternoon in the conference tournament quarterfinals when they face Midway in Bowling Green, Ky. at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
