Tigers pull off 4-2 win over Dallas Baptist to start off NCCAA Pool Play

MOBILE, Ala. – A tennis dual that started in the morning, ended nearly 12 hours later as the Campbellsville University men's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over Dallas Baptist University on Tuesday at the NCCAA National Championship.
 
Originally scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. CT start in Mobile, Ala., rain delayed the dual as the teams attempted to move to indoor courts to finish up singles play. There was an issue with getting onto the indoor courts to the resumption was delayed more until they finally continued with the dual eventually finishing close to 9:00 p.m. CT.
 
The Patriots were able to clinch the opening point of the dual by earning a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to go up 1-0 before the rain. Continuing into singles, CU's Raul Safont earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 position as Mario Sanchez pulled off a three-set victory of 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3 singles.
 
Both Nicholas Weisner and Grayson Cullen went into first set tiebreakers as Weisner dropped the opening set to win in three sets 6-7 (9), 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Cullen won his first set tiebreaker at No. 6 to earn a two-set victory by scores of 7-6 (9), 6-1.
 
The Tigers now move on to their next pool play match against University of Northwestern on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT in Mobile as CU looks to be in good position to make the knockout stage in the semifinals that as scheduled for Thursday.
