MOBILE, Ala. – Looking to leave no doubt on their way to the NCCAA Championship semifinals, the Campbellsville University men's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over University of Northwestern on Wednesday afternoon.
With that win, the Tigers clinched the top spot coming out of Pool B into the knockout stage of the semifinals as they will move on to play No. 4 Judson on Thursday morning with a chance to go to the Championship match on Friday.
In the win over the Eagles, CU got the first two wins in doubles play to clinch the doubles point as the teams of
Raul Safont and
Nicolas Verdu (6-2) at No. 2 along with
Anthony Ramirez and Nicholas Morosa (6-3) at No. 3 were able to start the Tigers on top.
Heading into singles play, Safont (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 and
Grayson Cullen (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6 earned their second wins respectively in singles play in the tournament with relatively easy victories.
Pablo Mossenta (6-0, 6-0) also swept his way to his first victory down in Mobile, Ala. for that fourth Campbellsville point.
Matus Sevcik (No. 2),
Mario Sanchez (No. 3), and Nicholas Weisner (No. 4) all had one set to none leads in their singles matches but ended up not finishing due to the Tigers clinching the team win at 4-0.
Heading into Thursday's match against Judson, the two teams will start up at 11:00 a.m. ET/10:00 a.m. CT with the other semifinal of Dallas Baptist University and Grace College starting at the same time as the two winners will meet in the championship at the same time on Friday.
