MARION, IN – In one of the early premier meets in the country the Lady Tigers showed that they belong in the national conversation with a top ten finish at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight.
After turning heads all pre-season and in their first meet of the year,
Christy Shank proved to be a name to remember. Shank was able to run the fastest debut for a freshmen at 18:59.3 which jumps her to fourth on the top ten list sitting behind
Gabrielle Velez.
After a successful track season,
Emma Steff picks up where she left off. Coming in as the second man on the team Steff was able to eclipse the 20 minute barrier at 19:53.8 placing 42
nd.
Hailey Shank followed closely behind Steff placing 48
th running a season best time of 20:02.41.
Nina Daman and
T'lea Scott rounded out the Lady Tigers top five. Daman ran a PR of 20:17.7 coming in 60
thplace overall. Scott tailed Daman with her 65
th placing and running a time of 20:26.
Lady Tigers team spread for the top five was down to a time of 1:26.7. Their team average time of 19:56 ties the second best team time of all time joining 2019's Jenna Strong Classic performance.
Hailie LaMar and
Maggie Lockard brought in the final two spots in the teams top seven. LaMar coming back from injury placed 81
st with her time of 20:55.2 while Lockard came in one spot behind her with a time of 20:56.6.
Marlena Sipes and
Madison Welch finished the team out for the meet. Sipes ran a PR time of 21:36.91 while Welch also joined her running a PR of 21:55.4.
"So far I am pleased and it was nice to see the times," said Coach Harris. "We have pre-conference next weekend and we will need to have big meets there and Greater Louisville".
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to jump back into action next Friday night at the MSC Preview Meet where they will see the conference course layout.
