Tigers swimming wins Fall Frenzy for first time in program history

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's swim team secured a first-place finish at the Fall Frenzy this weekend defeating second-place Lindsey Wilson College by a single point. The victory is not only the Tigers' first time winning the Fall Frenzy; it's also the first instance that the Campbellsville men's swim team has defeated Lindsey Wilson College since its inception back in the 2012-2013 school year.

The Fall Frenzy kicked off when session one began Friday afternoon at 6 p.m. ET. The men's first contest was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Campbellsville recorded a second-place finish with Ian Lopez, Sebastian Escobar, Llewellyn Crewe-Brown, and Nick Grabauskas finishing second behind the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College with a time of one minute and 28.85 seconds. Two other Campbellsville men's swim teams competed in the contest. Logan Reichley, Thomas Webb, John Chappell, and Benjamin Burnison came in sixth (1:35.21) and Brett Evans, Logan Pisula, Luke Mullis, and Bosco Barrero ended seventh (1:39.24).

The next contest was the 500-yard freestyle where Escobar would notch his first first-place finish of the Fall Frenzy with a time of four minutes and 46.07 seconds. His teammates Nick Burnison (sixth at 5:21.90), Benjamin Burnison (seventh at 5:38.03), Dustin Melton (eighth at 5:46.35), and Grant Luckett (ninth at 5:48.56) also swam in the race.

Following that, the 200-yard IM saw Chappell finish fourth on his time of two minutes and 8.16 seconds. Behind him was Barrero in fifth (2:16.59), Grabauskas in sixth (2:17.65), Reichley in seventh (2:17.77), Jude White in eighth (2:17.86), William Luciano in ninth (2:21.08), and Pisula in 11th (2:24.74). The second-to-last event in the first session was the 50-yard freestyle where Lopez finished just one hundredth of a second behind the Blue Raiders' Tyler King for second place. Crewe-Brown took 9th with a time of 23.11 seconds, Webb grabbed 13th with 23.83 seconds on the clock, Evans recorded a time of 25 seconds even for a 19th place finish, and Mullis came in 21st with a 25.87 second time.

Before the first day was over, the Campbellsville men's swim team would record a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley. The team for the race was comprised of Crewe-Brown, Grabauskas, Escobar, and Lopez for a time of three minutes and 41.21 seconds. Campbellsville had two other teams compete in the medley. Reichley, Chappell, Luciano, and Burnison came in fourth (3:52.86) and White, Pisula, Luckett, and Webb finished sixth (4:05.49).

The men's second session launched Saturday morning with Campbellsville men's swimming in second place behind Lindsey Wilson. The 200-yard medley relay kicked the day off and the Tigers would finish third, fifth, and seventh. The third-place team was Lopez, Grabauskas, Escobar, and Crewe-Brown with a final time of one minute and 29.03 seconds. The team finishing fifth was Reichley, Chappell, Luciano, and Burnison (1:45.01) while the seventh-place finishers were White, Gavin Johnson, Luckett, and Webb (1:51.41).

The men's 400-yard IM saw three Tigers finish second, third, and fourth: Chappell (4:35.87), Barrero (5:00.40), and White (5:00.49) respectively. After that was the 100-yard butterfly where Reichley finished fourth (57.21 seconds), Luciano ended eighth (59.29 seconds), Luckett came in ninth (1:01.35), Mullis raced 11th (1:02.21), and Evans completed the contest in 13th (1:03.75). The next race was the 100-yard butterfly where Reichley recorded a fourth-place finish (57.21 seconds), Luciano finished eighth (59.29 seconds), Luckett was just behind in ninth (1:01.35), Mullis ended in 11th (1:02.21), and Evans came in 13th (1:03.75).

Session two continued with the 200-yard freestyle where Escobar secured his second-place finish behind a time of one minute and 46.70 seconds. Also competing in the freestyle was Nick Burnison (seventh place with a time of 1:58.88), Benjamin Burnison (eighth with a time of 2:00.87), Melton (ninth with a time of 2:01.38), and Webb (tenth with a time of 2:01.86). The 100-yard breaststroke was next and Grabauskas came in second with one minute and 4.69 seconds on the clock. Accompanying him in the race was Barrero (finishing seventh with a 1:08.60), Johnson (coming in ninth with a 1:09.65), and Pisula (in tenth with 1:11.21).

The 100-yard backstroke saw Lopez finish third (56.37 seconds), Crewe-Brown end in fourth (57.71 seconds), Reichley come in fifth (58.92 seconds), White complete the race in seventh (1:02.79), and Evans finishing eighth (1:05.65). The last race of the second session was an 800-yard freestyle relay that saw three separate Campbellsville teams compete. Escobar, Lopez, Chappell, and Benjamin Burnison logged the quickest time coming in second-place behind a time of seven minutes and 37.86 seconds. Crewe-Brown, Nick Burnison, Grabauskas, and Luciano finished in fifth (8:00.07) while Pisula, Reichley, Melton, and Luckett logged a sixth-place time (8:28.93).

The third session began hours later with the 1650-yard freestyle. Escobar (16:49.98) was second, Nick Burnison finished sixth (19:04.08), and Melton ended seventh (20:40.18). Coming next for the men was the 200-yard backstroke which saw Crewe-Brown record a time of two minutes and 9.83 seconds for second place. His fellow Tigers Reichley (2:12.17) and White (2:17.73) finished third and fifth-place respectively.

Following that was the 100-yard freestyle where Lopez had a time of 49.45 seconds for third place. Behind him was fellow Tigers Webb (eighth with 52.08), Benjamin Burnison (11th with 52.88), Evans (16th with 56.62), and Mullis (17th with 57.74). The Tigers had five of the seven swimmers competing in the next race: the 200-yard breaststroke. Chappell came in second (on a time of 2:23.98) while teammates Grabauskas ended fourth (on a time of 2:31.37), Barrero finished fifth (on a time of 2:35.14), Johnson took sixth (2:41.59), and Pisula logged seventh (2:42.62).

The last two events were the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-yard butterfly, Escobar secured his second first-place finish of the Fall Frenzy recording a time of one minutes and 59.69 seconds besting second place by less than a tenth of second. His Tiger teammate Luckett would take fifth place on a time of two minutes and 26.94 seconds. The final race would prove pivotal as Campbellsville logged a first-place finish behind the team of Escobar, Lopez, Grabauskas, and Crewe-Brown (3:16.55). Two other Tigers teams participated in the event as well. Chappell, Webb, Reichley, and Benjamin Burnison ended fifth (3:29.45) while Evans, Pisula, Nick Burnison, and Melton came in seventh (3:42.02).

When all was said and done, Campbellsville men's swim team ended with a total of 1103 points for first-place, one point more than Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers' look to carry their momentum into their next meet at Centre College on October 1st at 6 p.m. ET.
