Smith and Stevens lead Campbellsville to third place finish at the Adrian Invitational Saturday

ADRIAN, MI – Tigers opened the 2022-23 campaign at the Adrian College Invitational Saturday afternoon. 
 
Greyson Stevens and Gavin Smith were able to walk away with wins in their weight classes on the day. Stevens won in a 4-2 decision over Adrians Dylan Wellbaum at 197 lbs. Levid Rodriguez earned the bronze medal in the 197 lb. weight class fall at 2:09 left on the clock against Siena Heights Wesley Peters.
 
At 165 lbs., Smith was able to earn his victory in the weight class against teammate Shad Slone of a 4-1 decision. 
 
Dawson Show found himself in the championship matchup in the 133 lb. weight division. Show was unable to work his way back against Averett University's Kyle Sanders falling in a 10-5 decision. Cameron Henderson worked his way into the first place bout at 141 lbs. Henderson went 3-1 on the day but fell in a 5-2 decision in the championship bout.
 
Gavin Andreoni made his way through his 149 lb weight class into the championship matchup. He met Hai Siu of Averett University and was unable to take Siu down while he took Andreoni down in a fall. 
 
Izaeah Beavers earned fourth overall in the 125 lb. division. Beavers was techfalled in the third place bout falling 15-0. Lody Cheatham was able to have a good 5-1 day for Campbellsville earning fourth place overall.
 
Jake Hurst worked his way to the third place bout. He met Tyson Nisley where Nisley won by major decision 9-1. Hurst went 4-2 on the afternoon. Brady Jarvis placed eighth overall in the freshham/sophomore division going 3-3 on the day.
 
Gabe Martinez won his final bout of the day at 184 lbs. with a fall coming and earning seventh overall while going 3-2 to begin the season. 
 
Kiernan Sherwood worked his way up the ladder into the championship bout of the 184 lb. freshman/sophomore division. Sherwood went 3-1 on the day but fell by a 11-5 decision to Alfred State's Sean Malenfant.
 
In the 285 weight class, Gabe Craig led the way for Campbellsville with his third place finish. Craig went 3-1 on the afternoon and winning his final bout in a 12-0 major decision. Jaden Sonner placed fifth behind Craig going 3-2 and winning his fifth place bout. In the freshman/sophomore division, Joel Hatchett fell to Evan Albrecht out of Alfred State in the championship bout while Hatchett went 3-1 to finish his day.
 
Campbellsville will return to the mat for the Reinhardt Duals on Saturday November 12th
