LEBANON, Tenn. – The #9 Tigers went to Cumberland University to participate in two duals Wednesday afternoon: the first against the Rio Grande Red Storm and the second against the #18 host institution. Campbellsville only lost one match in their competition against Rio Grande to the tune of a 50-3 final score. However, the Phoenix bested the Tigers to end the night, 21-12.
 
In the first dual against the Red Storm, Izaeah Beavers, #15 Jake Hurst, #8 Gavin Smith, #14 Brice Parks, Kiernan Sherwood, #9 Greyson Stevens, and #17 Jaden Sonner all had their hands raised. The only time Rio Grande earned points was in the 149lbs. bout they won.
 
After that convincing win, the home team hit the mat to defend their facility. Cumberland put up eight ranked wrestlers against Campbellsville's six. The Tigers held their own, but only took three victories: #9 Dayton Marvel had a 3-2 decision win over (#21 in 141lbs.) Victor Guzman, #15 Jake Hurst was victorious against #12 Eli Clemmons in a disqualification, and Stevens earned a decision, 4-0. Smith gave national champion #1 Cole Smith everything he had but came up short in a 10-6 decision. All matches were up for grabs as they all ended in close decisions. Seven of the ten matches were within four points.
 
Campbellsville will return to campus and take on #20 Thomas More Saturday January 14^th at 3p.m. ET.
