CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.– The Tiger basketball team faced off against the #22 Thomas More Saints at Powell Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. Although they shot a high percentage from three, their overall field goal percentage was just 33.9% as they fell, 79-51.
To start the contest, the Saints strung together seven points to propel them to the lead. A jump shot from Chandler Clements disrupted the Saints' run, but Campbellsville's field goal percentage stagnated at 22.2%. Jace Wallace reigned in the Tigers' deficit twice with shots from the arc. The Saints retaliated with a few baskets as Campbellsville struggled to find relief in their shooting efforts and finished the half trailing Thomas More 32-22.
Campbellsville fell short in every shooting category compared to the Saints. The Tigers solidified 29% in field goals to Thomas More's 38.7%. The Tigers tallied 28.6% in three-pointers to the Saints' 33.3%. Campbellsville mustered 50% from the charity stripe, whereas Thomas More accumulated 71.4% from the line. Wallace led the Tigers, finishing the half with eight points and five rebounds.
Keaston Brown kicked things off in the second half with a three from the arc. However, Thomas More busted open their lead by scoring 11 consecutive points following Brown's shot. Wallace made a dunk to interrupt the Saints, but Thomas More canceled his efforts with another big run. Clements and Brown worked together to scratch their discrepancy as they collected a couple of layups and a three-pointer. Turnovers hindered Campbellsville as Thomas More cultivated 13 turnovers into 21 of their points. The Saints' continued to increase their lead and the Tigers were unable to recover, dropping the competition 79-51.
Thomas More outrebounded the ball 43 to Campbellsville's 28. The Tigers struggled in field goals, with 33.9% compared to the Saints' 47.7%. Wallace led with ten points and five rebounds. Jordan Graham finished the evening with ten points and three rebounds.
The Tigers will return to the hardwood next Saturday, February 4th. The Battle of Highway 55 starts at 3 p.m. ET in Powell Athletic Center.
