LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The #9 Tigers wrestling team participated in the USMC/NWCA National Dual Meet Championships Friday and Saturday. They lost both duals their first day, but rebounded with two straight wins on the second.
Of the 95 teams across six college wrestling divisions who competed, Campbellsville was first matched up against #7 Marian. Campbellsville bookended the dual with
Izaeah Beavers besting #9 Anthony Hughes at 125 lbs. via decision and #17
Jaden Sonner winning with a pinfall in just 1:49 at 285 lbs., but they were only two wrestlers to capture a victory. Marian moved on, 30-9.
After dropping their opening round, the Tigers faced another stalwart foe in the #17 Cumberlands Patriots.
Troy Kennedy's major decision, #15 Shadrick Slone's decision against #12 Turner Black, #15
Levid Rodriguez's pin, and Sonner's second pinfall of the day all kept Campbellsville's hopes alive. However, the Patriots edged out the Tigers in total score, 24-19.
Campbellsville went into day two reeling and looking for an opportunity to turn things around from their disappointing day one. They hit the mat against (RV) Cornerstone and dropped only three of the ten match-ups, winning 28-9. The match of the dual was #15
Jake Hurst's 9-5 decision over #25 Thade Radosa. The Tigers then advanced to face frequent foe (RV) Lourdes who Campbellsville had defeated earlier in the year 36-9. The result would be the same as the Tigers took it 31-13 for a 13
th place finish at the duals.
Next, Campbellsville will be in Lebanon, Tennessee on Wednesday January 11
