COLUMBIA, KY – The Tigers opened up the 2023-24 season with a 3rd place finish at the Lindsey Wilson Fall Frenzy over the weekend with a team score of 648.
Fifth-year senior
Sebastian Escobar led the way for Campbellsville with two individual wins on his weekend. He won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.49 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.86. He was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.60 and placed 5th in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.40.
Individual events crowned the Tigers success to a 3rd place team finish.
Luis Castro earned the bronze medal position in the 500-yard freestyle with his time of 5:04.99. Castro earned another 3rd place finish in the 400-yard IM at 4:42.46. His best finish of the weekend came in the 1650-yard freestyle with a runner-up finish in the event in a time of 17:30.65. He finished off his individual weekend with a 4th place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.04.
Llewellyn Crewe-Brown scored points in four individual events on the weekend. He placed 6th overall in the 200-yard IM in 2:06.99. In the 100-yard butterfly, he hit top-ten with a time of 56.79. He narrowly missed a top-ten finish in the 100-yard backstroke with an 11th-place finishing time of 58.99. Crewe-Brown finished off his individual point weekend in the 200-yard backstroke with a 7th-place finish of 2:11.23.
Bosco Barrero was the next Tiger to see individual event success. Barrero began his success early in the 200-yard IM, placing 13th overall in 2:15.99. He was 10th overall in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.27. He missed a top-ten finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with an 11th-place finish of 2:37.98.
Ian Lopez earned his points across four different individual events. In the 50-yard freestyle, he was 6th and touched the wall in 22.43. For the 100-yard butterfly, Lopez placed 7th in 55.85 and was 6th in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.20. He finished off his efforts in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.19, placing 13th overall.
Lucca Motta saw action across three different events on the weekend. He earned one point, placing 16th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.60 while bumping up to 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.13. Motta touched the wall in 16th-place in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 53.86.
Jude White produced points out of four individual events on the weekend. In the 200-yard IM he was 15th overall in 2:18.54 and bumped up to 9th in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:57.55. He placed 15th in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 1:01.13 and was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.87.
The pair of
Gavin Johnson and Eli Slaughter saw a group of individual success. Johnson was 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.48 and was 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:42.08. Slaughter finished 11th overall in the 1650-yard freestyle in 21:27.21.
William Luciano and Ben Burnison both scored points in their respective events for the Tigers. Luciano was 16th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.68, while Burnison placed 14th in the 200-yard IM in 2:17.83.
Brody McKeel earned his stripes early in his career for Campbellsville. He earned his first points, placing 16th in the 200-yard IM in 2:19.67 and bumped up to 8th in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:31.95. For the 100-yard breaststroke, he touched the wall in 12th and swam a time of 1:09.21.
Andrew Jay gave Campbellsville one event of individual scoring in his 200-yard freestyle, placing 11th in 1:59.83.
Martin Venegas rounded out the final individual scoring for the Tigers. Venegas placed 15th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.91 and was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.72.
Campbellsville saw two relays earn top-two finishes on the weekend. In the 200-yard medley relay, Barrero, Crewe-Brown, Escobar, and Lopez won the event in 1:40.88. For the 800-yard freestyle relay, Castro, Crewe-Brown, Escobar, and Lopez were the runner-ups in the event in 7:36.65. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Campbellsville put Barrero, Crewe-Brown, Escobar, and Lopez in the water, placing 5th in a time of 1:39.71.
The Tigers will return to the pool on Saturday, October 20th, when they travel to Wilmore, Kentucky, to square off against Asbury University.
