SEWANEE, TN – Campbellsville had a big weekend at the Igloo Invitational, walking away with seven event wins and two meet records.
The weekend started out with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Llewellyn Crewe-Brown,
Ian Lopez,
Bosco Barrero, and
Sebastian Escobar set the meet record in 1:25.94, .39 seconds shy of the school record. Crewe-Brown and Escobar followed up the next two events with victories. In the 200-yard IM, Crewe-Brown won with a time of 1:59.48, while Escobar won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:43.35.
Lucca Motta was 5th overall in the 500 free in 5:07.04.
Luis Castro earned the bronze in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:03.00. Lopez and
Martin Venegas earned top-five in the 100-yard freestyle. Lopez was the runner-up in 48.23, while Venegas was 4th overall in 49.10.
The 400-yard medley relay earned 2nd overall, with Crewe-Brown, Barrero, Escobar, and Lopez touching the wall in 3:35.84.
Tigers came away with the top two spots in the 1650-yard freestyle. Castro won the event in 16:59.61, and Escobar was 2nd in 17:07.97.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Campbellsville came away with a win from Escobar, Crewe-Brown, Lopez, and Castro in 7:17.80. For the 200-yard medley relay, the Tigers were the runner-ups with Crewe-Brown, Barrero, Escobar, and Lopez swimming the event in 1:36.81.
Benjamin Burnison brought in a top-five finish in the 400-yard IM, placing 4th overall in 4:39.51. Lopez earned the silver in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.75. He swam 21.67 in the prelims, only .57 seconds off his school record set back in the 2021-22 season. Crewe-Brown gave Campbellsville a bronze in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 54.92.
The second meet record of the weekend came in the 200-yard freestyle. Escobar won the event in 1:42.11 but set the meet record in the preliminary round of 1:41.37. Castro earned the bronze in the event with his time of 1:50.89, while Motta was 4th in 1:53.65.
The final event of the weekend came with one final victory. Escobar, Lopez, Crewe-Brown, and Barrero won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:11.90.
As a team, Campbellsville was the runner-up with 773 team points.
Campbellsville will have the next two weekends off before returning to the pool on Saturday, December 9th, when they travel to Shawnee State. After that meet, the Tigers will return in 2024 for three more regular season meets before the Mid-South Conference Championships.
