BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Campbellsville University competed in the ITA Tournament and the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational this fall. The Tigers finished the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational 1-1 with (5-2) win over Georgetown College and fall (3-4) to University of the Cumberlands.
Hernan Toledo, currently ranked 39th in the NAIA Men's ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, was the only Campbellsville player to reach the semifinals of the ITA Tournament. H. Toledo won (6-4, 6-1) over Chase Hechemy, (6-1, 6-2) over Joao Pedro Cardoso, (6-4, 6-2) over Alex Straiger, and (6-0, 6-2) over Paul Daniel Meyer. H. Toledo fell in the semifinal round (6-2, 6-4) to Jan Silhavy. Nicolas Andrade won (7-6, 6-1) over Daniele Trentin and (6-3, 6-1) over Leo Schirmer but fell (4-6, 4-6) to Julian Parada. Nahuel Hernando made it through the first round (3-6, 7-5, 10-7) over Vitor Ferreira but fell to Harry Jordan in the second round (6-7, 7-4, 8-10).
On the doubles side of the ITA Tournament, H. Toledo and Andrade won over Midway (8-4) but fell to Lindsey Wilson (7-8).
In the (5-2) win over Georgetown College, H. Toledo (6-2, 7-2), Andrade (6-2, 6-4), Sebastian Toledo (6-3, 6-0), and Hernando (4-6, 6-3, 10-6) secured wins of their own in the singles competition. Teams of Hernando and S. Toledo (7-5) and Rikuto Towata and Maximiliano Roman (6-4) also walked away with wins in the doubles competition.
In the (3-4) loss to the University of the Cumberlands, H. Toledo (7-6, 6-7, 10-6), Hernando (4-6, 7-5, 6-2), and Mario Sanchez (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) had wins in the singles competition. The team of H. Toledo and Andrade (7-6) were the lone Tigers to win in the doubles competition.
After many years of playing in the fall, this is the first season the fall tournaments competed in will count toward their overall record.
The Tigers will begin their spring campaign on Thursday, March 14th, at Kelly Hall Tennis Complex in Campbellsville, Kentucky, to take on Lindsey Wilson College at 2 p.m. ET.
