KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The flood gates opened for Campbellsville in the semifinal matchup against Roberts Wesleyan, with
Adam Preston's squad winning 5-1.
On Wednesday, when Campbellsville met the Red Hawks, all the Red Hawks had to do was go for the draw, and they won the pool due to goal difference. This caused for more stagnant and defensive play. Today, both teams had to play to win, and Campbellsville found the open holes in the Red Hawks defense early and often.
Jamie Bird and
Felix Baubeng were connected throughout the first half. Baubeng started the Tigers off with a goal in the 5th minute of play with a backdoor header off a corner kick from Bird. Baubeng was then responsible for setting up a goal in the 20th minute with a ball to
Mihlali Blesi.
The third goal of the half for Campbellsville came from Baubeng on another assist from Bird. A ball came out of the box, and Bird put it in on the backside of the 18-yard box for Baubeng to net his second of the match, taking a 3-1 lead at the half.
The start of the second half gave Campbellsville a confidence boost with a goal coming 30-seconds into the second 45-minutes.
Malte Ekman had a long ball played, and the Red Hawks keeper came out while Ekman found the easy open net.
The Tigers final goal came from
Pablo Garcia on a penalty kick after
Ollie Jagroop drew the foul on the corner of the box.
Overall, Campbellsville outshot the Red Hawks 20-13 while having an 8-3 on frame advantage. The Tigers doubled the Red Hawks on corner kicks 6-3, with one leading to a goal in the first half.
Christian Hauge had a quiet day in the net, making two saves in the second half.
The NCCAA announced the Mid-East Region All-Region teams this afternoon.
Marc Boye was named the Player of the Year, and joining him on the all-region team were Baubeng,
Zeezo Cassim, Blesi, and Hauge.
Campbellsville returns to the NCCAA Championship game after winning in 2021. The Tigers will face off against Wesmont College at 6 p.m.ET.
