Penny's multiple season-highs propel Tigers to victory

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Tigers hosted the Voorhees University Tigers on Monday. The home Tigers' team-playing efforts significantly surpassed the opposing Tigers, winning Monday's battle of the Tigers, 91-53, enroute to the best start of the season since the 2018 season.

Campbellsville came into the game with solid offensive plays, holding the lead from the opening minutes of the first half. An eight-point run from the Tigers brought Campbellsville to double digits on the scoreboard, while Voorhees only had one layup in their favor. Cobe Penny's blocks of the opposing Tigers' attempts aided Cameron Willis and Tyrelle Hunt in racking up defensive rebounds for Campbellsville. Penny's fourth assist of the game resulted in another layup by Hunt, closing the first half with Campbellsville on the winning end of the scoreboard, 38-24.

At the end of the first half, the home Tigers' team play played a detrimental role in obtaining an early lead on the game, collecting 13 assists to the opposing Tigers' four and 12 bench points while Voorhees had none.

The opposing Tigers opened the second half with back-to-back jumpers, but Jay Milburn collected his first block of the game, preventing them from reducing their advantage. Halfway through the second half, both teams significantly enhanced their defense with avid steals and rebounds. Wallace's skillful dunks widened Campbellsville's advantage over Voorhees. In the game's last five minutes, Willis and Jay Milburn scored three-point buckets for the home Tigers.

At the end of the game, the home Tigers teamplay remained their most consequential advantage, collecting 25 assists and 28 bench points compared to the opposing Tigers' seven assists and five bench points. Penny recorded multiple new season-highs throughout today's game: five rebounds, seven assists, four steals, six-of-eight free throws, and his first block. Additionally, five Campbellsville players reached double digits in today's game: Wallace with 19, Hunt with 17, Milburn and Penny with 15 each, and Clements with 13.

The Tigers will be back in action, taking the road for the St. Francis University Classic on Saturday, December 30th through 31st.
