TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The #15 Tigers went to North Greenville University for the first time since 2020 Friday night. Behind a struggling defense and many errors, the Crusaders swept the Tigers, 3-0.
Things got off slowly for Campbellsville with North Greenville notching the first four points of the contest. Although the Tigers broke up the run with a
John-Marcos Gonzalez kill, the Crusaders would bring the score up to 10-2. North Greenville would sustain a comfortable advantage for the remainder of the opening frame, ultimately taking it, 25-14. 16 total errors doomed the Tigers' chances to begin the game ahead.
After hitting a paltry -.115 in the opener, Campbellsville sought to bounce back with a more effective attack. Gonzalez did just that when he logged the first kill of the second set. At 10-10, offensive woes still plagued the Tigers but Crusader errors and consistent defensive digs kept things even. Just as it seemed Campbellsville was turning a corner, errors began to creep back into the picture. Three straight points went in favor of North Greenville from these mistakes. Past that point, the Tigers would bring their deficit as close as two, but never tie or take the lead. The set ended 25-21 for the Crusaders. Although the end result was closer and The Tigers brought their hitting percentage up to .091%, still errors plagued their offense.
Campbellsville's attacks cleaned up through the initial moments of the third set, but North Greenville was hitting a blistering .667% at 9-5 in favor of the Crusaders. That would be the story of the deciding frame as the Tigers just couldn't dig up the Crusaders' hits. That, in addition to Campbellsville's hitting regressing, resulted in a 25-9 third and final set.
The Tigers come home Tuesday February 7
th hosting the first home game of their season when they take on Kentucky State University at 6 p.m. ET.
