CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tigers returned to the turf on Citizens Bank Field Saturday night to take on the Pioneers of MidAmerica Nazarene. Campbellsville saw frequent chances at the goal in the second half, but were unable to capitalize while MidAmerica Nazarene connected twice in the first half, 2-0.
The Pioneers entered the match second in the NAIA in shot percentage at .400. Tasked with lowering that percentage, Emilia Shakespeare got the nod to start for the first time this season. MidAmerica Nazarene proved that prowess in the ninth minute when crisp passes caught their players in stride and a Pioneer sent the ball in, bouncing off Shakespeare's outstretched gloves. Later, in the 25
th minute, it was that same precision passing that led to another fast break goal and extended MidAmerica Nazarene's advantage.
At halftime, the Lady Tigers mustered seven shots but only two of those were quality on-goal. All four of the Pioneers' attempts were on.
In the opening minutes after the half, Campbellsville was much more successfully aggressive, putting the ball in the opposing box often. Through twenty minutes of second half action, the Lady Tigers had kicked five shots with three threatening. The story remained the same until the final buzzer sounded: Campbellsville's conditioning afforded them consistent control, but ultimately, they couldn't break through for the score. The match ended 2-0 for MidAmerica Nazarene.
The Lady Tigers will continue their home stint on Thursday September 7
th at 6 p.m. ET when they take on Aquinas College.
