MARION, IN – Campbellsville opened up the 2023 season running their first 6K distance in program history.

In previous years, the NAIA has run the 5K distance at the national championship. This past offseason, it was voted to move the women up to the 6K distance. NCAA D1, D2, and D3 all run 6K at their conference, regional and national championships. Now, Campbellsville will begin to see the 6K distance at meets, their conference, and national championship.

Hailey Shank and Emma Steff led the way for the Tigers in their first running at the distance. Shank placed 25th overall, running 24:09.1, while Steff was three spots back in 28th with her time of 24:16.4.

Close behind Shank and Steff was Nina Daman. Daman, coming off a successful track season, has transitioned that into the first meet of the year, placing 41st, running 24:40.8.

The next runner in for Campbellsville did not cross the line for over a minute. Meredith Wilson was the fourth athlete in for the Tigers, placing 83rd running 26:18.5. Brianna Collins made her debut in a Campbellsville jersey Friday night. Collins ran a time of 26:31.4, placing 89th overall. 

Madison Welch was 11 seconds behind Collins in 93rd place with her time of 26:42.3. Taylor Morgan brought in the final spot for the Tigers as the seventh man on the night. Morgan placed 122nd in the meet, running 29:20.2. 

The Tigers will return to the course on Friday, September 15th, when they travel to the Western Kentucky Invitational.
