WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Campbellsville University Tigers traveled to the University of the Cumberlands to take on the Patriots on Friday night. The Tigers fell to the Patriots in their second Mid-South Conference dual, 24-19.
The Patriots started strong, winning four matches before the Tigers saw points on the scoreboard. Izaeah Beavers, at 125 lbs. weight class, and Caleb Thomas, at 133 lbs. weight class, fell by technical fall. At 141 lbs., Eli Peyton won over Jimmy Carmany by major decision. Nick Moore fell to Jace Luchau by decision, 2-1.
Cumberlands had a 17-point advantage before the 157 lbs. match. Antwuan Burns won over Weston Milnes by decision, 6-3, giving the Tigers their first three team points.
As the team score sat at 17-3 in favor of the Patriots, Shad Slone fell by major decision to Turner Black at 165 lbs., 11-3.
At 174 lbs., Gabe Martinez pinned Charlie Friedenreich in the second period, cutting into the Patriots' lead, 21-9. Kiernan Sherwood fell by decision, 3-0.
The Tigers worked their way back, winning the final two matches: Joel Hatchett by decision, 14-3, and Gabe Craig by pin in the first period. Hatchett and Craig added ten points to their team score, but it wasn't enough, leaving the team score at 24-19.
The Tigers will return to the mat on Tuesday, January 30th, in Columbia, Kentucky, to take on Lindsey Wilson College. The Mid-South Conference dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
