DANVILLE, KY – The Tigers opened up 2024 with a 3rd place team finish at Centre College over the weekend with less than one month to go until the Mid-South Conference Championships.
Campbellsville opened the meet with a 4th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Lucca Motta,
Bosco Barrero,
Logan Pisula, and
Sebastian Escobar finished the event in 1:31.95. Escobar earned the first win of the day for the Tigers in the 500-yard freestyle. He was 7.04 seconds ahead of 2nd place with his time of 4:53.26.
Luis Castro placed 4th in the event at 5:12.82.
Benjamin Burnison and
Jude White earned top-ten finishes in the 200-yard IM. Burnison was 9th overall in 2:20.17, while White finished behind in 10th at 2:21.05. Barrero finished in a tie for 15th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.80. The Tigers earned a top-ten finish in the 400-yard medley relay, with Castro, Pisula, Escobar, and
Martin Venegas placing 9th at 4:04.70.
They came back with another 9th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
Andrew Jay, Burnison, Venegas, and Motta finished in 1:52.73. Barrero and White finished back-to-back in the 400-yard IM. Barrero was 7th overall in 5:05.17, with White close behind in 8th with a time of 5:10.56.
Venegas brought back a top-ten finish in the 100-yard butterfly with his 9th-place time of 59.78. Escobar picked up his second victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.75.
Brody McKeel placed 11th in his 100-yard breaststroke over the weekend. He finished in a time of 1:09.63.
For the 800-yard freestyle relay, Escobar, Barrero, Motta, and Castro were only .96 seconds off a runner-up finish in the event, placing 3rd in 7:36.40. Castro gave the Tigers their third event win of the day in the 1650-yard freestyle at 17:51.15. Escobar earned one final event win on the day in the 100-yard freestyle with his winning time of 47.64.
The Tigers rounded out the weekend with a 4th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Motta, Venegas, Barrero, and Escobar finishing in 3:24.41.
As a team, Campbellsville placed 3rd with 252 team points. The Tigers will return to the pool on Saturday, January 13th, when Indiana Wesleyan and Pikeville come to town. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
