Castro, Prokopchuk break two school records over the weekend against Asbury and Centre

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY – Campbellsville had a busy 24 hours over the weekend hosting Centre College Friday evening, then returning to the water Saturday morning for a bout against Centre College.

In the early stages of the meet, Campbellsville picked up the first win of the day from the 200-meter medley relay. Ian Lopez, Yuri Prokopchuk, Martin Venegas, and Andreu Jaén Serra won the relay in 1:53.41, beating out the Colonels by .16. 

Jaen Serra came back in the 200-meter freestyle with the first individual win of the night in 2:04.42. Jackson Willett gave Campbellsville three points in the 50-meter freestyle with a 3rd place finish of 26.30. Luis Castro earned the top spot in the 100-meter butterfly with his time of 1:02.26. 

Willett came close to his second win of the day in the 100-meter freestyle with a runner-up finish of 59.65, only 1.96 seconds off first. Jaen Serra garnered his second victory of the day in the 400-meter freestyle with a convincing win of 18.86 seconds in 4:20.27. The Tigers earned 3rd place in the 200-meter freestyle relay with Castro, Willett, Logan Pisula, and Venegas on the relay, swimming a time of 1:46.31. 

Prokopchuk set the school record Friday evening in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:06.36, beating out second place by 8.73 seconds.

With only 14 hours rest, Campbellsville returned to the pool on Saturday with the Eagles in town. The Tigers were the silver medalists in the 200-meter medley relay, with Lopez, Prokopchuk, Venegas, and Jaen Serra on the team, who finished at 1:53.03. Jaen Serra swam to the top spot in the 800-meter freestyle in 8:53.45, his third win of the weekend individually. 

Pisula placed 2nd in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:16.29, beating out third place by .03 seconds. After setting the school record Friday evening, Prokopchuk lowered the record by another 1.38 seconds to 1:04.98, earning an NAIA Provisional time and the win in the 100-meter breaststroke. 

Castro won the 200-meter butterfly for the Tigers in 2:19.08, he returned with his final individual victory of the weekend in the 200-meter backstroke in a school record time of 2:15.78. Willett and Lopez went 2-3 in the 50-meter freestyle. Willett was 2nd in 25.84 and Lopez earned 3rd overall in 26.07. 

Venegas and Willett gave the Tigers another 2-3 finish in the 100-meter freestyle. Venegas was 2nd in 58.19 and Willett was 3rd in 59.01. Prokopchuk set another school record in the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:32.09 and was in front of second place by 10.31 seconds. 

Jaen Serra was the final Tiger to earn an individual win on the weekend. He won the 200-meter IM in 2:19.04. Campbellsville finished out the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay with Jaen Serra, Prokopchuk, Castro, and Venegas swimming 1:43.43. 

Campbellsville will have the weekend off next week before returning to the water on Saturday, November 2nd when they travel to Union College. That meet begins at 1 p.m. ET.
