Yancey earns 149-lbs. bracket win at Millikin Open, Slone collects second at 174 lbs.

Decatur, Ill. – The Campbellsville Tiger traveled to Decatur, Illinois, to participate in the Millikin Open on Saturday. Nik Yancey led the way with a first-place finish in the 149 lbs. weight-class, earning 24 team points for the Tigers.

The tournament was a 32-man bracket with cross over from top-ranked Division Two, Division Three, and NAIA institutions. Campbellsville brought 11 wrestlers with nine individual finishes in the top eight of their respective weight classes. The Tigers finished the weekend with a record of 45-12, receiving 25 bonus points out of the 45 matches competed in. Collectively, the Tigers earned 13 technical falls, nine pins, and three major decisions.

Yancey won all five matches over the weekend: winning by two technical falls (17-2 over McKendree's Dru Thomas and 17-2 over Cornell's Nate Wood, a major decision (11-3 over Adrian College's Sampson Ross), a decision (4-1 over Parkside's Jordan Craft), and tie-breaker (5-2 over unattached Justus Heeg).

Shad Slone, wrestling at 174 lbs., landed a second-place finish, falling in the finals. Slone finished the weekend 4-1, winning all by technical falls: 17-1 over Cornell's Dahson Dejong, 15-0 over Central College's Colby Tool, 15-0 over Thomas More's Jackson Hoskins, and 15-0 over Kentucky Wesleyan's Nolan McKelvy.

Four Tigers landed fifth-place finishes: Amari Harden (125 lbs.), Shane Watson (141 lbs.), Tyler Muldrew (157 lbs.), and Joel Hatchett (197 lbs.). Harden finished the weekend with five wins and one loss, Watson had six wins and one loss, Muldrew had five wins and one loss, and Hatchett had four wins, one loss, and received a bye. Two of Watson's wins were by pin, pinning Ashtyn Bennett at 2:39 and Hudson Andrews at 5:31. Muldrew also pinned Illinois Wesleyan's Omar AlQammaz at 2:06.

Two Tigers earned sixth-place finishes: Jasitin Kubwimana at 165 lbs. and Gabe Craig at 285 lbs.  Kubwimana earned five wins over the weekend, including a pin against Wabash's Ike O'Neill at 3:57. Craig earned five wins over the week, all five being pins and spending little time on the mat. Craig won over Tristan Williams at 0:28, Bake Palmer at 1:17, Michael Esquivel at 0:16, Cooper Caraway at 1:50, and Gavyn Uribes at 0:22.

Brady Jarvis and Lody Cheatham also competed for the Tigers. Cheatham wrestled at 165 lbs., receiving a bye and winning one of his other three matches. Jarvis wrestled at 174 lbs., ending the weekend with one win.

The Tigers will return to the mat on Saturday, November 16th, to take on the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
