MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Tigers traveled to battle the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars on Tuesday morning in their last contest before Thanksgiving. Despite nearly doubling the Cougars' total in the paint, the Tigers lost the game, 85-78.
The Cougars were first on the scoreboard in the opening seconds of the game. Mount Vernon Nazarene came into the court with strong offensive plays, collecting 13 points before the Tigers were able to score their first basket.
Ra Briggs put Campbellsville on the scoreboard with his layup and, although the Tigers retaliated, the Cougars continued to increase their advantage. However,
Dalton Kramer,
Javaughn Smith, and
Keaston Brown raised their game, unleashing their offensive prowess, tying the score at 26. Both teams went back and forth stealing the lead, remaining only a couple of points away from one another. However, Campbellsville increased Mount Vernon Nazarene's shortfall on the scoreboard, and closed the first half with the upper hand, 42-37.
Much like the first, the Cougars scored the first basket of the second half. Kramer quickly retaliated, preserving the Tigers' advantage. Mount Vernon Nazarene came within a point from Campbellsville. The Tigers lost the lead as the Cougars capitalized off free-throw opportunities.
Cobe Penny and
Marcellus Vail collected a couple of layups, but Campbellsville remained possessions behind Mount Vernon Nazarene. Brown and Kramer racked up consistent baskets, but they were still unable to catch up with the Cougars.
Jay Milburn decreased the gap on the scoreboard to one possession with only 30 seconds left on the clock. Despite Campbellsville's efforts to bounce back, Mount Vernon Nazarene took the victory, 85-78.
The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Kingsport, Tennessee to battle Indiana University Kokomo Cougars on Saturday, November 30th beginning at 11:15 a.m. ET.
- Despite losing the game, Campbellsville surpassed Mount Vernon Nazarene in a few statistical categories: offensive rebounds (15-7), points off turnovers (14-11), steals (6-5), bench points (25-14), second chance points (21-14), and points in the paint (42-26).
- Three Tigers reached double digits during today's game: Kramer with 25 points, Penny with 16, and Milburn with ten. Additionally, Kramer and KJ Banks led with six rebounds each and Brown with four assists.
