Tiger defense forces season-low shooting in big home win over Grenadiers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers on Tuesday night in a rematch from their early-season loss. With double the buckets from beyond the arc and a 32-point advantage bolstered by a stifling defensive effort, Campbellsville got their revenge and took the victory, 77-45.

Kam Vick began the match with back to back buckets in the opening seconds of the game. The Grenadiers retaliated from the free-throw line, but KJ Banks and Jay Milburn quickly racked up baskets to amplify their lead. James Jewell came into the court with strong defensive plays against IU Southeast, collecting block after block and preventing the Grenadiers from gaining control over the ball. Marcellus Vail came off the bench with a three-pointer, putting the Tigers ten points ahead of IU Southeast. With less than five minutes left in the first half, Cobe Penny and Ra Briggs widened the Grenadiers' deficit on the scoreboard layup after layup. At halftime, Campbellsville led the game, 36-20.

Much like the first, Vick scored the first basket of the second half. The Tigers strongly benefitted from their opportunities at the charity stripe, increasing their advantage with successful free-throws. Campbellsville's three-pointers remained one of their most significant strengths as the contest continued to unfold. Halfway through the second half, IU Southeast was yet to score from the field since the closing seconds of the first, only collecting a couple of free-throws. With only ten minutes left in the game, the Grenadiers capitalized off multiple free-throw opportunities. However, the Tigers did not falter at the sight of push-back, as Dalton Kramer and Noah Gordon avidly scored in the paint. Campbellsville took the victory, 77-45.

The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Waleska, Georgia to battle the Reinhardt University Eagles on Wednesday, January 1st, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
