KINGSPORT, TN –
Sebastian Escobar led the Tigers this weekend, earning six All-Conference honors at the Mid-South Conference Championships.
Escobar won his second Mid-South Conference title of his career in the 200-yard freestyle. He swam a new school record time of 1:40.30, beating out Cumberlands Ruben Gonzalez De Oliveira by .21 seconds. Campbellsville began the meet with a bronze medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Escobar was joined by
Ian Lopez,
Bosco Barrero, and
Llewellyn Crewe-Brown with a time of 1:25.82, just .27 off, tying the school record.
Sebastian earned the silver medal in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:42.09, earning the team 17 points.
Luis Castro was 5th in the event at 4:51.90,
Benjamin Burnison was 8th in 5:11.69,
Lucca Motta won the B-final in 5:06.16, placing 9th overall,
Andrew Jay finished 11th in 5:13.67, and
Elijah Slaughter, was 14th in 5:43.71.
Crewe-Brown led the way for Campbellsville in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.21, placing 11th, with
Brody McKeel placing 16th overall at 2:07.48. Lopez finished 8th in the main finals of the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65. In the 400-yard medley relay, Crewe-Brown, Barrero, Lopez, and Escobar finished top-five in 3:35.81. The Tigers narrowly missed the bronze medal in the 200-yard medley relay, placing 4th. Crewe-Brown, Barrero, Lopez, and Escobar swam a time of 1:36.46.
Campbellsville picked up key points in the 400-yard IM with three athletes in the main finals. Castro placed 6th in 4:27.04, Burnison was 7th at 4:40.18, and Barrero placed 8th at 5:07.46. In the B-finals,
Jude White placed 10th with a time of 4:48.73.
Martin Venegas and
William Luciano earned four points in the 100-yard butterfly. Venegas placed 14th at 56.62, and Luciano placed 16th at 58.08.
Barrero, McKeel, and
Logan Pisula gave Campbellsville ten points in the 100-yard breaststroke. Barrero placed 11th in 1:01.21, McKeel was 13th at 1:02.62, and Pisula rounded out the group in 1:02.90. Lopez and Crewe-Brown brought 16 points back from the 100-yard backstroke. Lopez placed 9th in the B-final in 54.25, and Crewe-Brown was 10th in 55.03.
Campbellsville earned the bronze medal in the 800-yard freestyle relay with Castro, Motta, Crewe-Brown, and Escobar swimming a time of 7:12.43. Castro placed 5th overall in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:52.83 while keeping a 4.26 split range across the board. Slaughter missed sub-20 by .12 seconds in the event at 20:00.12.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Crewe-Brown was 6th in the finals at 2:01.63. White placed 13th overall in the B-finals with a time of 2:17.49. Escobar gained another medal to his collection in the 100-yard freestyle. The 5th year senior finished in a tie with Lindsey Wilson's Max van Schagen in 45.82.
McKeel, Pisula, and Barrero combined for ten points across the board in the B-final of the 200-yard breaststroke. McKeel led the trio, finishing in 12th at 2:22.09, Pisula was 14th in 2:24.77, and Barrero finished 15th with a time of 2:33.17. Burnison and Luciano finished out the final individual scoring event for the Tigers. Burnison placed 7th in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:17.19, and Luciano was 9th in 2:29.07.
The final event of the weekend for Campbellsville gave the Tigers one final medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Lopez, Barrero, Crewe-Brown, and Escobar finished 3rd in 3:12.02.
As a team, the Tigers finished 3rd overall with 427.5 points. The University of the Cumberlands captured their sixth straight Mid-South Conference crown with 958 points.
Campbellsville will now look ahead to the NAIA National Championship on March 6-9 in Columbus, Ga.
