WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The Campbellsville University Dance Team attended the Patriot Spirit Invite this past weekend at the University of the Cumberlands, rounding out their regular season.
In the first round, the Tigers went up against Concordia University Ann Harbor and the University of the Cumberlands. Concordia Ann Harbor took first with a score of 74.2, and the Cumberlands placed second with a 69.65. Campbellsville placed third with a score of 67.25. "It was definitely not our best run." said head coach
Laura Day. "The girls knew what they needed to do as soon as they came off the floor. We just had to brush it off and aim for 20% better for the second round."
The second round consisted of Marian University, Concordia Ann Harbor, and Campbellsville University. "We went out there with a fire to do better than our last performance. The girls focused, and we cleaned up quite a bit from the first round." Concordia again took the top spot in the second round, dropping two points from the first with a 72.65. Marian finished in second with a score of 72.25, and the Tigers rounded out third place with a score of 70.70. "We still didn't place or score where we wanted to be, but there was only a .55 difference between us and Marian and 1.95 between us and Concordia. Both are good teams we have never competed against, and it boosted the girl's confidence to know we are scoring so close to some really good teams. Now we just have to carry that confidence over to our qualifying event in New Orleans in a week to hopefully take a spot in the line up for Nationals!"
The dance team will compete again in New Orleans at Loyola University on Monday, March 11th, at their regional qualifying event, vying for a spot at the NAIA Dance Nationals on March 29-30th.
