COLUMBIA, KY – The Tigers kicked off the 2024-25 season at the Lindsey Wilson Fall Frenzy over the weekend.
Campbellsville began the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Jackson Willett,
Llewellyn Crewe-Brown,
Andreu Jaén Serra, and
Ian Lopez swam a time of 1:30.35 at the wall. The Tigers had another runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Lopez,
Yuri Prokopchuk, Crewe-Brown, and Willett swimming 1:40.05.
The Tigers had two bronze medal finishes in two other relays. For the 400-yard medley relay, Crewe-Brown, Prokopchuk, Lopez, and
Luis Castro touched the wall at 3:44.52. The final relay to earn the bronze medal was the 800-yard freestyle relay, which Castro,
Lucca Vieirra Motta, Willett, and Jaen Serra finished in 7:37.24.
Individually, Campbellsville finished with multiple podium spots. Jaen Serra won the the 200-yard freestyle with a provisional time of 1:45.78. In the 500-yard freestyle, Jaen Serra earned the silver medal with a provisional time of 4:49.69. Castro earned the bronze medal behind Serra in 4:56.63. Prokopchuk swam a provisional standard in the 100-yard breaststroke with a silver medal finish of 58.67.
In the 1650-yard freestyle, the Tigers had two podium finishes from Castro and Jaen Serra. Castro was the silver medalist with a provisional standard of 17:08.58, while Jaen Serra also had a provisional standard, placing third in 17:16.93.
Campbellsville's final podium finish came from Lopez in the 50-yard freestyle with his bronze medal time of 22.38. Willett finished 9th overall in the event in 23.09. Crewe-Brown raced his way to a 9th-place finish in the 200-yard IM in 2:10.13. Crewe-Brown next top-ten finish came in the 100-yard butterfly, placing 7th in 57.19. He finished out his top ten finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, tied for 6th in 59.50. Lopez was 5th in the 100 back in 58.65.
Bosco Barrero came in 9th place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:18.54. Castro narrowly missed a podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle, placing 4th in 1:53.22. Motta was 9th in the 200 free in 1:58.87. Barrero gave the Tigers one final top-ten spot in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:37.81.
As a team, Campbellsville placed second overall with a score of 556.5. The Tigers will return to the pool on Saturday, October 5th, when they travel to Indiana Wesleyan University. The first event begins at 2 p.m. ET.
