MARION, IN – After a year-long injury hiatus,
Christy Shank returned to the course for the Tigers Friday evening with a top-five school-record performance.
Shank did not see any cross country or track and field action during the 2023-24 school year. In her first race back, she led the Tigers to an 11th-place team finish. She set the school record in the 6K distance with a new record time of 22:51.1, placing 5th overall.
Nina Daman was the second runner in Campbellsville, with her early season-best time of 24:10.9, placing 34th. Rookie
Emma Madding made her debut for the Tigers Friday evening in a big way, coming in as the third man for the team. Her first time at the distance placed her in 81st with a time of 25:23.9.
Brianna Collins earned her way into the top five for Campbellsville in the season debut. Collins was the fourth man this week, placing 116th while crossing the line in 26:06.9.
Maggie Jewell, who was a mid-year transfer last season, made her cross country debut for Campbellsville as the fifth man on Friday evening. She ran a time of 26:59.7 while placing 138th.
Julia Smaldone and Anna Claire Carwrile rounded out the top seven for Campbellsville. Smaldone was sixth in the finishing order, placing 148th, running 27:17.1, while Carwile was close behind in 153rd place in 27:37.0.
As a team the Tigers placed 11th with an average time of 25:06 while having a 1-5 spread of 4:08.6. Campbellsville will return to the course on Friday, September 20th at the Larry Young Invitational in Columbia, Missouri and will get a preview at the national championship course that weekend.
- Friday evening was Shank's first appearance for Campbellsville since the 2023 track season.
- Daman ran 29.9 seconds faster in her season debut than she did in the 2023 season debut.
- Madding ran the fastest debut for a freshman in the 6K distance in program history.
- This is the second season the NAIA will run the 6K distance at the national championship.
