Tigers finish 4th at NWCA National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, Ia. – Campbellsville went 2-2 at the NWCA/USMC Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships this weekend. CU faced four teams ranked inside the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll.

The Tigers started fast with a 28-18 route of #17 Missouri Valley. The Vikings took the first two matches before Nick Moore picked up a fall in two minutes over #19 Donavan Parn. Nik Yancey, Tyler Muldrew, and Jasitin Kubwimana followed suit, picking up victories via tech falls and sudden victory. Kubwimana defeated #18 Dayton Hill, 7-4. Brice Parks ended with CU's third tech fall of the dual. Gabe Craig finished off the battle with a 13-2 major decision.

#6 Doane University was next on the mat for Campbellsville. This match went down to the wire as Craig again came up huge for the Tigers. Izaeah Beavers scored first with an 18-6 major decision against #13 Matthew Terrence. Yancey needed extra time in his match, winning in sudden victory, 4-1, over the number one ranked wrestler in 149. Kubwimana earned an 18-3 tech fall. Shadrick Slone picked up big points with a pin in four minutes. Campbellsville lost the 184 and 197 bouts, leaving the score 18-17 in CU's favor. Craig squared off with #24 Eli Criblez in a showdown to advance into the semifinals. A slow match to start, saw Gabe get in on his underhooks, and a huge throw would lead to a pin in 2:08. CU outlasted Doane, 24-17.

The Tigers would fall in the semifinals, 30-15, to #2 Life University. Yancey edged out a close bout, 5-4, over #16 Bret Minor. Slone pinned his matchup in four minutes and 34 seconds. Craig finished with another fall in 2:53.

Campbellsville lost in the third-place match against #3 Southeastern, 39-5. Brice Parks picked up the lone tiger win, as only three starters took to the mat.

CU will return to action next Friday when it hosts the University of Rio Grande and Lindsey Wilson. The matches will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
