CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Tigers hosted the #3 Georgetown College Tigers on Thursday night. Despite Campbellsville relentlessly seeking the lead capitalizing off Georgetown's turnovers, the home Tigers fell, 85-71.
Georgetown got ahead from the early stages of the game. KJ Banks and Jay Milburn scored Campbellsville's first baskets of the game four minutes into the first half. Marcellus Vail and Ra Briggs brought the home Tigers within three points from the opposing Tigers' advantage, unable to push through to steal the upper hand. Georgetown's three-point buckets propelled them forward on the lead, reaching a 14-point advantage over Campbellsville. Cobe Penny closed the first half with his second steal of the night, attempting to bring back control over the ball to the home Tigers. However, the opposing Tigers reclaimed the ball and closed the half, leaving Campbellsville trailing, 44-33.
With less than ten seconds into the second half, Georgetown scored another three-point basket. The home Tigers brought high-energy plays; however, the opposing Tigers' defense hindered their momentum, causing Campbellsville to collect several missed shots. Georgetown's shots beyond the arc remained their biggest strength throughout the match. The game saw a 20-point gap on the scoreboard as the last ten minutes of the game approached. Banks' steals and defensive rebounds were a pivotal force for Campbellsville's attempts to retaliate. Although the home Tigers sank a few key baskets seeking to catch up, the opposing Tigers' pace on the court proved too strong for Campbellsville to outsmart.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, February 1st, when they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to battle the University of the Cumberlands Patriots, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
