Tiger swimming collects top-finishes at Centre College

DANVILLE, Ky.- The Campbellsville men's swim team turned in a performance Tuesday evening at Centre College in a double-dual meet against Centre College and Midway University. The Tigers tallied 432.8 total points, led by event wins and one of the closest relay finishes of the night. Campbellsville split the evening, winning their dual against the Midway Eagles (133-66) and falling against the Centre College Colonels (136-67).

The event 200 medley relay started the evening for the Tigers, where the A-team of Kyle Kleinhans, Bikash Kumal, Luis Castro, and Andreu Jaén Serra placed fifth in a deep field, clocking 1:41.53, just behind the number four Centre squad. The B relay of Jacob Isacson, Kase Moore, Kirkland May, and Martin Venegas also added points with a 1:49.96.

Andreu Jaén Serra led the way in the 200 freestyle, winning the event in 1:46.89, a season best. Adrien Cantemerle followed in third with a personal best 1:48.70, while Kleinhans and Lucca Motta both added points with season-best times.

In the 200 individual medley, Castro continued his strong form with a runner-up finish in 2:07.73, marking a new personal best. Isacson placed sixth with a personal best time of 2:10.55, helping Campbellsville demonstrate depth in the mid-distance events.

Sprint freestyle featured more top results for the Tigers. Venegas placed fifth in the 50 freestyle with a season-best 23.21, while DeVaughn Wilson, Moore, and Garrett Schmidt all hit personal or season bests in the event. Venegas returned in the 100 freestyle to take third in 49.86. May (52.06) and Motta (53.81), both setting new season bests.

Castro delivered another standout swim in the 100 butterfly, finishing second in 55.09, a new personal best, followed closely by Kumal in fourth at 56.80.

In the 500 freestyle, Jaén Serra once again impressed, placing second in 4:56.45, followed by Cantemerle in third with a significant personal best 5:00.14, marking one of the strongest distance showings of the season.

Backstroke proved another highlight for the Tigers as Kleinhans posted a personal best 54.52 to take second in the 100 backstroke. At the same time, Domantas Petraitis and Isacson followed in third and fourth, both with personal or season-best times.

In the 100 breaststroke, Kumal earned third place with a time of 1:01.71, marking a season's best and continuing his consistent form in the event. Moore and Schmidt both added valuable points.

The night ended with one of the most exciting races of the event, as the Tigers' A-relay of Cantemerle, Venegas, Jaén Serra, and Castro won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:18.08, edging the Centre squad by just .03 seconds. 

The Tigers' men's team will return to action in two weeks, on Thursday, October 30th, at a dual meet against Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky.
