#3 Lady Tigers' paint play proves too much for Grenadiers in Classic opener

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #3 Campbellsville University Lady Tigers opened the Campbellsville Classic on Friday with a dominant 89-46 victory over the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. The Lady Tigers were relentless in the paint and on the glass, overpowering the Grenadiers with a 56-20 advantage in the paint and a 42-21 rebounding margin to move to 4-0 on the season.

Campbellsville Tigers Story Banner 25-26

  • Three Lady Tigers scored in double digits: Whitney Hay (15), Hallie Allen (12), and Tyra Flowers (11).
  • Flowers and Hay led Campbellsville on the glass, each pulling down seven rebounds (three offensive and four defensive).
  • The Lady Tigers surpassed the Grenadiers in nearly every statistical category, most significantly: rebounds (42-21), assists (26-12), bench points (41-26), points off turnovers (24-6), and points in the paint (56-20).
  • Campbellsville's history against IU Southeast stretches back to 1994; the Grenadiers have never won a game against them, making this the Lady Tigers' 14th consecutive win in the series.
  • The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th, for day two of the Campbellsville Classic, playing the Stephens College Stars beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
The game's first points came from the free-throw line before the clock had officially started, as a foul on the opening tip sent Whitney Hay to the line, where she calmly sank both. That set the tone for a quarter of physical dominance. The Lady Tigers' paint presence outshined the Grenadiers, building a 10-4 lead early. Hallie Allen and Paige Serafini added long-range shots to propel Campbellsville forward, while the defense forced seven IUS turnovers in the period. Allen closed the quarter with a three-pointer, giving Campbellsville a 24-8 lead.

Hay struck first in the second period with a jumper, courtesy of an assist from Dea Bradley. The Grenadiers reached double digits at the 8:58 mark, but a layup by Tyra Flowers just under the eight-minute mark pushed the Lady Tiger lead to 31-10. Both offenses stalled in the final four minutes of the half, with neither team finding the basket, but the damage was done. Campbellsville carried a 25-point advantage, 41-16, into the locker room.

Serafini and Flowers opened the second half with back-to-back layups to extend the lead. Campbellsville's defensive pressure kept IUS off the board for nearly three minutes until a Grenadier three-pointer at the 7:04 mark. IU Southeast's attempts to match Campbellsville's physicality resulted in fouls, sending Flowers, Hay, Kinsley Molden, and Allen all to the charity stripe in the quarter. Late in the period, Bella Stiles scored her first bucket in the paint, assisted by Lainey Johnson, helping push the lead to 37 points, 66-29, heading into the final frame.

The Grenadiers found some rhythm from beyond the arc in the final quarter, but the Lady Tigers' paint dominance was too much. The starters, including Flowers, Hay, and Allen, counteracted every effort with high-percentage looks at the rim. Freshmen Abby Gilbert and Katie Geralds joined the scoring barrage, cleaning up in the paint as Campbellsville ran away with the 89-46 victory.
