KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Campbellsville University men's wrestling team landed at #7 in the third edition of the NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Thursday by the national office. The Tigers gathered 164 team points to remain firmly in the top 10, though they dropped one spot from their previous #6 ranking.
Campbellsville boasts eight ranked individuals, with
Nik Yancey and
Wyatt Hinton serving as the notable risers in this edition.
Yancey moved up one spot to #4 in the 149-pound weight class. The sophomore has been in stellar form, recently placing fourth in the elite Open division at the Grand View Open and going undefeated at the Chattanooga Quad against NCAA competition. Hinton made the largest jump for the Tigers, climbing four spots to #17 at 133 pounds. Hinton's rise comes on the heels of a resilient fourth-place finish at the Grand View Open, where he rattled off five consecutive consolation victories.
The Tigers continue to feature a strong core of top-tier talent holding steady in the top 10:
- #4 Izaeah Beavers (133 lbs.) remains a national title contender, giving Campbellsville a formidable 1-2 punch at the weight alongside Hinton.
- #4 Antwaun Burns (157 lbs.) holds his position as one of the nation's premier middleweights.
- #5 Jasitin Kubwimana (165 lbs.) stays in the top five after a dominant 21-6 technical fall victory in the Tigers' recent dual win over Rio Grande.
- #6 Brice Parks (184 lbs.) keeps his standing after a controlling 7-2 decision win over a ranked opponent in the Rio Grande dual.
Elsewhere in the rankings,
Shad Slone checks in at #10 at 174 pounds. Slone, previously ranked #2, faced a gauntlet of ranked opposition at the Grand View Open but bounced back emphatically with a 39-second pin in the Tigers' dual victory last week.
Rounding out the ranked Tigers are
Cameron Meier, who sits at #19 at 125 pounds, and
Jake Hurst, who is ranked #23 at 165 pounds.
Campbellsville will look to build momentum heading into the winter break when they compete at the Rocky Top Duals in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Friday, Dec. 13.
