CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 10th-ranked Campbellsville Tigers squared off against the #3 Cumberlands Patriots on Wednesday Night at the Hord Family Wrestling Center. In their last regular-season dual, the Tigers were victorious in their final four matches to win 23-15.
Following an early 6-0 deficit and facing a potential takedown, #4 Izaeah Beavers refused to go down, blocking the attempt. #8 Chandlar Akins tried to maintain an advantage, but Beavers escaped for the first points scored just before the first period closed. Then, Beavers controlled the rest of the way, starting with his takedown (the match's first) to the outside of the circle.
The 141-lb. match-up between #17 Nick Moore and #9 Gage Hudson resulted in a tough defeat for Campbellsville. #1 Nik Yancey looked to rebound for the Tigers. Down 3-2 to #4 Jace Luchau headed into the final period, Yancey took the lead with less than a minute to go. He then followed that with a takedown seconds later to secure the victory.
The Patriots regained momentum after the 157-lb. bout. Up next was a top-ten showdown between #10 Jasitin Kubwimana and #5 Turner Black, in which Black bested the Tiger in a thriller.
#6 Shad Slone had a 6-1 advantage after period one and emerged dominant in his 16-1 triumph. Down 16-11 as a squad, #9 Brice Parks put the Tigers within one point heading into the final two matches.
Joel Hatchett took down former Tiger Greyson Stevens in a nailbiter, securing the Tigers a two-point lead heading into the heavyweight match. That's where #5 Gabe Craig would conclude the dual with a big pinfall W, brining the Tigers the huge, conference win.
Campbellsville heads next to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday, February 14th.
