Tigers pick up 9th sweep of season over Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – Campbellsville University stormed into the Eagles' Nest at Midway University and never looked back, securing a dominant three-set sweep with a high-powered offensive performance.

The Tigers wasted no time setting the tone as John Marcos Gonzalez opened the match with a massive kill. Midway stayed in the set early, capitalizing on Campbellsville's service errors, but the Tigers quickly pulled away with back-to-back kills from Denzel Madrigal. David Barcan provided a significant spark, helping extend the lead to seven before Midway called a timeout at 19-11. After the break, Barcan took control, delivering four consecutive kills to seal the first set, 25-14.

In the second set, Midway struck first, but Campbellsville responded immediately to even the score at 4. Moritz Frauendorf then notched an ace to give the Tigers a slight edge. The Eagles remained competitive, but a crucial five-point run by Campbellsville forced Midway to call a timeout. From that point forward, all Tigers dominated offensively and defensively. Campbellsville closed the set with authority, commanding a 25-15 win.

Looking to complete the sweep, the Tigers came out strong, but Midway gained its first lead of the match, going up by two. Campbellsville responded quickly, tying the score at seven before unleashing a seven-point run to regain complete control. Oluwatesie Adebayo made an immediate impact off the bench, hammering a kill to extend the lead to nine. The Tigers continued to dominate down the stretch, with Barcan adding an ace and Mason McKinney delivering a final, emphatic swing to close the match with a 25-17 victory.

Campbellsville will return to action on Saturday, March 29, traveling to Rio Grande, Ohio, to take on the Red Storm of Rio Grande University at 4 p.m. ET in River States Conference play.
