Cross Country programs see shifted leadership in new season ahead

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University's men's and women's cross country programs shifted leadership in preparation for the new season.

Following the departure of the previous head coach, Corbin Harris, Chase Bulten was announced as the new head coach for the program. When asked about standout returners or notable incoming players for the men's side, Coach Bulten stated, "We are returning five and welcoming two new transfers that will have an immediate impact: Nathan Sury, a transfer from William Carey, qualified individually for the NAIA national Championships in 2024, and Spencer Head, who has achieved marks that will allow him to compete at the highest level in the NAIA, and Martin Batel, a returning NCCAA All-American, competed at the NAIA national championships last fall."

When asked the same question for the women's side, Bulten continued, "On the Women's side, we are returning six. Emma Madding put together a great summer of preseason training and looks to be leading our women this season. The women welcome three new freshmen who will likely step in and immediately impact our top seven."

Last season, the men's team had a historic year. The Tigers won the NCCAA national title for the first time in program history, and every race Campbellsville's men ran in 2024 is now in the top ten for team averages.

At the NCCAA National Championships last year, Campbellsville won both the men's and women's individual titles: Christy Shank for the women and Dominic Malel for the men.

When asked about training, team goals, and an overall look at the upcoming season, Bulten stated, "The men all had consistent training this summer and preseason. We are only returning one from our previous top 7. However, I would like us to qualify for the NAIA national championships again. Some returners will need to step into new roles and embrace the challenge before them. From what I've seen this preseason, they have the confidence and ability to do so."

"The women will be a young team up front this season. However, many of them already have experience as leaders, and I see a lot of potential for them to progress throughout the season. The women will rely on packing up and moving up in races together.", said Bulten.

To close, Bulten reiterated his confidence and trust in the team for the 2025 campaign, stating, "I think there is potential for them all to have a great season."
