LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Tigers took the road to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Campbellsville's top performance came from Martin Batel, who secured a top-15 individual finish in one of the most highly attended cross country meets in the United States.
On the men's side, Batel led the Tigers with a top-15 individual finish, landing 13th with a time of 25:24.7. Batel's time was good enough for a season best and a personal record, beating out last season's 25:31.10 at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
Aaron Smith followed in the top 200 runners, placing 190th with a time of 27:07.1. Samuel Larson placed right outside the top 250 in 252nd with a time of 27:45.1.
Dustin Ralph, Austin Barnes, Matthew Mattingly, and Corbin Hale rounded out the Tiger runners: Ralph at 360th with 29:46.1, Barnes at 281st with 30:34.6, Mattingly at 396th with 31:06.2, and Hale at 416th with 37:38.3.
Campbellsville men placed 37th as a team.
For the women, Anna Claire Carwile and Maggie Jewell led the Tigers, placing back-to-back in the top 100 runners, Carwile at 91st with 21:51.8 for a season best and missing her personal record by only seven seconds, and Jewell at 92nd with 21:51.9, respectively.
Karly Spalding, Julia Smaldone, and Amelia Larson finished within the top 115, Spalding placing 103rd with 22:07.2, Smaldone in 107th with 22:10.6, and Larson in 113th with 22:21.4, respectively.
Becca Stringer also ran for Campbellsville, placing 146th with a time of 23:49.4.
Campbellsville women placed 16th as a team.
The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to race in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Saturday, October 25th.
