#7 Tigers place 11th at NWCA National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The #7 Campbellsville University men's wrestling team navigated a gauntlet of ranked opposition this weekend at the NWCA/USMC Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships. Facing some of the NAIA's premier programs, the Tigers finished the tournament with a 2-3 dual record to place 11th, bouncing back from early setbacks to deliver a dominant performance in the placement round.

Campbellsville opened the championship against Mid-South Conference rival #12 Cumberlands (Ky.) in a dual featured by high-stakes individual matchups. At 141 pounds, #14 Nick Moore earned a gritty 8-1 decision over #15 Eli Peyton, putting the Tigers on the board. In a clash of top-10 grapplers at 165 pounds, #5 Jasitin Kubwimana outlasted #10 Malachia Harris to secure a 13-10 decision. #10 Shad Slone (174 lbs.) added a statement win, earning an 11-4 decision over #8 Weston Melvin. Ashton Boswell (197 lbs.) closed out the Tigers' scoring with a 6-2 decision against Caden Brewer, but the Patriots claimed the dual 29-12.

The Tigers rebounded with a 28-15 win over #15 Arizona Christian University. #4 Antwaun Burns (157 lbs.) provided a spark, pinning Kadrick Lewallen in 3:22. #5 Kubwimana kept his momentum rolling at 165 pounds with a commanding 14-1 major decision over #25 Nicholas Piña. At 174 pounds, #10 Slone secured a fall at 2:25 against #9 Leonardo Galasso, earning critical bonus points. #4 Nik Yancey (149 lbs.) battled to a 4-1 sudden-victory decision over Rico Robles, while Boswell added an injury-default win at 197 pounds to help seal the dual.

Campbellsville faced sixth-ranked Oklahoma City in the next round, falling 27-15 in another contest loaded with ranked individuals. Shane Watson (141 lbs.) stepped up for the Tigers, earning a 4-1 decision over Kaden Wallace. #5 Kubwimana remained undefeated on the weekend with an impressive 11-6 decision over #6 Jordan Lomeli. 
At 197 pounds, Boswell edged #8 Omari Smith in a high-scoring 13-11 decision, but the Stars pulled away to take the team victory.

In the consolation semifinals, the Tigers ran into a buzzsaw against #8 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). The Tigers' lone win came at 149 pounds, where #4 Nik Yancey recorded a dominant 17-5 major decision over #13 Christian Lopez.

Campbellsville closed the championships on a high note, defeating #16 Corban University (Ore.) 36-11 to secure 11th place. #10 Slone ignited the lineup at 174 pounds with a fall at 2:13 over Armando Nicacio. Boswell capped his strong weekend with a fall at 4:07 against Asaiah Kamplain. Anthony Joseph (157 lbs.) added a 13-4 major decision over Gus Menne, while Cal Beadling (149 lbs.) earned a hard-fought 8-6 decision over Jr. Downing to help complete the rout.
