Paint dominance, balanced scoring lift Campbellsville over Alice Lloyd

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's basketball team opened 2026 by hosting the Alice Lloyd College Eagles. Propelled by double the points in the paint and Eli Brooks' season-high 20 points, Campbellsville defeated Alice Lloyd, 86-70.

Within 15 seconds of tip-off, Eli Brooks scored the first bucket of the contest, assisted by Jay Milburn. Only a minute later, Dalton Kramer followed suit with a layup. The Eagles retaliated with baskets in the paint, but TyShay Epps and Javaughn Smith's shots from long range quickly propelled Campbellsville to double digits on the scoreboard.

Alice Lloyd's fouls pushed them farther behind, bringing the Tigers to the free-throw line on several occasions to maintain their lead. Campbellsville's bench was instrumental in keeping the gap at a double-digit margin, with Marcellus Vail, Parker Jones, and Ra Briggs scoring layup after layup to fuel the Tigers' momentum.


Brooks was key to Campbellsville's unyielding performance, scoring in double figures with five minutes left in the first half. The Eagles' foul trouble resulted in Brooks, Vail, and Briggs capitalizing at the charity stripe. Campbellsville dominated the court on several fronts, outrebounding Alice Lloyd significantly and shooting efficiently. At the half, the Tigers led by 26, 52-26.

The Eagles collected five points in the opening minutes of the second half. Lewis Richards came off the bench, assisting Briggs for Campbellsville's first basket of the period. The tension on the court was palpable, with both teams increasing their physical play. At the 16:09 mark, Taveon Smith scored his first bucket of the day, aided by Jones' second assist. Evin Eversole, the only Alice Lloyd player with double-figure points (16), was a relentless force for the Eagles.

Evan Frederick entered the game and drained his second three-pointer of the season, assisted by Richards. Brooks reached 20 points at the 8:06 mark with a dunk, recording a new season high. Kramer and Frederick elevated the action, collecting jumpers to bring Campbellsville to 80 points.

Alice Lloyd's Will Alexander and Andrew Bloomfield increased their offensive efforts in the final stretch, combining for 14 points in a five-minute span. With only two minutes left, Hayden Blakeman came into the game and scored his third field goal of the season, bolstered by Cannon Young's second assist. Benjamin Yombi closed the scoring with a jumper for the Tigers, securing the 86-70 victory.
